"Is any way to check a stator or trigger when they are out from the motor. Before I buy one, My motor is a 1995 mercury 115."

"Jorge, while you can't check the voltage they are supposed to supply, you can do resistance tests with an ohm meter.

Here are the two spec charts:

"Graham, I exchanged messages

"Graham, I exchanged messages with you last week about my 45 HP 4-cyl Mariner Outboard not starting. I found my stator is bad (open on the blu-blu/wht leads). CDI makes a direct replacement that is not potted like the original one. The CDI version is about half the cost of the potted ones. Is the CDI version with exposed coils going to last OK?

"Graham,
Jorge is a co-worke

"Graham,
Jorge is a co-worker of mine. He tested the stator and got 5.8 on the blue-blue/white and wants to make sure that this verifies that the stator is bad. From the specs that you posted I'd say it is bad. Everything else test within spec on the stator and trigger. It's just this one that is out of the spec.

"Terry - yes, the exposed coil

"Terry - yes, the exposed coils are fine. If you look through the different Merc parts over the years, some were open. The closed ones are perhaps better in a "salty" environment - definately protect the windings - but can't think of any other issue. On my motor the charging coils are open, the ignition ones are sealed....

CJ - assuming the meter is calibrated correctly - then maybe the stator is going bad, but I wouldn't immediately scrap it over 1 ohm. In a case like that I would want to check out the voltage with a DVA tester first, since this is not exactly a "cheap" part..."
