There is a 1979 Smoker Craft boat for sale localy. It has a 115 HP Mariner, and a 9.9 HP Mariner motor. From what I can find on line ( If I am doing it right on NADA) the motors together are only worth about $1000. I don't understand how this can be really. Can anyone give me their opinion? Thanks Greg

The NADA estimates are a total joke! I'd buy lots of motorsd if they were being sold at their prices.

The NADA numbers are used to determine a value mathematically ---------EG, take off 35% for the first year and 10% every year thereafter.--------------It does not take into account local demand or condition of the product at all.---------They say a motor is worth $150--when most of those will easily sell for $1000.00-------------Dealers / insurance folks get guidance from NADA values and not the average consumer.

I would have thought the motors would have been worth much more. Other brands of motors the same age and size are worth a lot more. After talking with the local marina that works on my present boat, I discovered that getting parts for a Mariner motor this old could be really hard to do. That was his explination for the low NADA price. I believe both motors are in excellent shapre right now, but I don't think I want to get into something that may be a problem 2 - 3 years down the road. Thanks for the replys

The 115 HP mariner is a MERCURY with a grey paint job.---------------So getting most parts will not be a problem.----------Most consumable parts will be available for a long time to come.
