"I have a recently purchased 2000 24' Lowe Pontoon boat with a 50hp Johnson. I have only taken it out once to a lake before I take it up to use/leave it at my place on the Colorado River in AZ. The motor is no speed demon as you could have guessed on a 24' pig of a boat like this one! I would like to be able to pull my kids on a tube or even on skis or a wakeboard.

The boat is rated for a 115hp motor and I have been looking for one to buy. My question is, what problems am I going to run into changing to a Mercury 115 (1995 model). Will I be able to use my existing controls and wiring or will I have to get some different controls? Would it be any easier if I were to find Johnson/Evinrude 115 instead?"

"I didn't realize that they are more expensive to work on, less reliable, etc!!!! What are your thoughts on a 1981 Johnson 115 that is supposed to have a 1985 powerhead. He says it has 120psi on all cylinders. I'm trying to get a model # so I can check shaft length, I need a 20". Do you know if a 1981 has power trim an tilt? Could I adapt my wiring harness and controls to make it work?"

"Thanks for your answers, the problem is that I am in CA and he is in FL so I would have to take his word on the compression. I emailed him about the controls."
