How much cooling water is enough ??

Howdy
Just started fishing after a 50 year absence. (so I've got alot to learn/remember.)
I have a 2005 Mercury 50ELPTO. (just got it)
I notice that after starting, there's not a real strong stream of cooling water coming out of the motor........(at idle)
Is that right ??

That motor has a thermostat, so it will do that until it warms up. If you can keep your hand on the bock it's not overheating.

I took it out today and did notice a variety of streams....apparently thermostat related.
