"Brian, nothing really stands out as an issue. The temp sensors are cheap and prone to failure, but that is true of all the Merc's - aside from that nothing really comes to mind - but you may get another opinion or two from guys who post here (and have a better memory than me)

How many hours before a rebuil

How many hours before a rebuild? I am looking at one with 250 hrs but the compression is great and it runs like a top.

"Brian, an outboard is kinda a different beast, there is no "magic" number when it's time to rebuild.

I have 4 of my own motors, 2 approaching the 2000 hour mark, one near 1000 and another with maybe only a few hundred. None have been rebuilt and all have great compression and run about the same as they did 20 years ago.

I just completed a rebuild on a 17 year old Force, which was a budget engine to begin with, that had over 1500 hours on it.

In a good boating season I put 250 hours on a motor, for others their 20 year old motors don't have that much on them.

Personally I think it is more about how the motor was treated and maintained. A reasonably maintained motor should get well in excess of 2000 hours before it requires a rebuild - and by that point it is usually old enough that a new motor is a viable alternative, because often times a rebuild is cost prohibitive..."
