"Hi Gary; fwiw, when I've wanted to know it's cuz I'm going to push things (ocean). I've gone old-school with great success. Simply take along a one gallon gas can (after the test you can save it as backup ;).

drop your motor gas line feed into it... and drive as you would normally do it. In fact you might want to overload the boat a tad; run it a little harder than you usually would.

This will get you both miles per gallon, time per gallon; add a little math and you'll get it all.

Or... you could drop money on a fuel meter.

happy boating"

"Gary, Glen is definately on a good track to figure that out.

It's almost impossible to say what any given motor will get as far as mpg/gph without knowing all the factors.

Example, an 80 horse on a "lighter" boat (say rated for a 90 horse max) will be alot different that a heavier boat rated for say a 150 with that same 80 horse.

So yes, self tests are probably the easiest way to get your answer...."

thanks guys I was`nt consideri

thanks guys I was`nt considering all the variables when I posted the Q guessI`ll have to give that a try

"Gary, Let's be practical.

"Gary, Let's be practical. You need to have two 6 gallon tanks for an 80HP motor. The best test it to fill 'em both and time it to run one dry. You will not get much more than one hour running on six gal."
