Don’t have my ear in yet for 2 strokes so could someone tell me if this is running well r not. Sounds a bit metaly to me. Thanks

haven't actually bought it yet just wondering if i should stay away from it, he also sent me a video of it running out on the water and it sounded good revving up and holding speed so i just dont know

They were great engines back in the early '80's, twin cylinder, twin carbs, Yamaha based engine when we sold them new. That motor would run circles around a 4 cylinder 50hp Merc. Unfortunately, parts have all but vaporized, long searches for the simplest of parts.

Would u say it would be alright to get a season or 2 out of then pass on or given how it looks and sounds to stay away

First of all the water in the tub is too low for the water pump to pick up what it needs, even though you have a strong tell tale.....a separate circuit from what the engine needs in crankcase cooling regulated by the thermostat . Second its smoking a lot....something causing that, not normal! Easy to see if it's running on one cylinder.....disconnect a plug at a time and see if it still runs. If so, you don't have a not contributing cylinder doing its job .

To my ear it does sound a bit metallic, almost like piston slap or something rattling loose. I’d keep an eye on it and maybe do a quick compression check just to be safe.
