How does Evinrude stack up

"I realize I'm in the evinrude forum but I need some advice. I am in the market for a used bass boat and have not been keeping track of how the different outboards stack up to one another. I see on the commercials where mercury apparently gets much better fuel economy. I have my eye on a 2004 Ranger with a 225 evinrude. Is this year evinrude a good quality motor? A dealer who sells all the different brands told me to stick with mercury, mainly because you can find parts and mechanics to work on them all over the place. I'm looking for something that is very reliable more than anything. Thanks!"

Do these newer outboards have any type of hour meters on them?

Some have it in the ECU comput

Some have it in the ECU computer. Dealer can look up # of hours / max engine RPM / overheat info etc etc.

The only history I have with Bombardier (Owner of Evinrude now) is that their wave runners, SeaDoo, are pieces of crap! I just wanted to see if they carry this same lack of quality over to Evinrude?"

Arguing Evinrude vs Mercury is

Arguing Evinrude vs Mercury is like arguing Ford vs GM...in this forum you'll find us very pro-Evinrude and the opposite in the Mercury one.

Down here in NZ Bombardier/Evinrude have a very good reputation for both reliability and customer service...so do Mercury. You can't go wrong with either......
