"My 1964 9.5 hp has two broken tilt lock rods. I found a damaged donor swivel bracket with two good rods but I do not want to swap out the assembly, just the rods. Please describe how to do this. Thanks."

This is just a distant memory

This is just a distant memory but believe you have to remove one of the transom clamps. Then remove the springs on the trim rods.

"Thank you for the response.

"Thank you for the response. I have removed both of the transom clamps, the 1964 model has two tilt lock rods. I also removed the spring and the tilt lock selector handle. Do the tilt lock rods simply pull out or do I need to remove any sort of retainer?"

going way back now--- maybe y

going way back now--- maybe you will scrape all the paint off that pivot and find a roll pin holding that last piece in. If so punch it all the way thr and re-assemble from the front. You're going where no man has gone in 30 years!!

"William, you saved the day.

"William, you saved the day. I scrapped and wiped away all of the grease and found two "C" shaped retainers, one on each rod. I pryed them out and the rods came right out. I need to take the time to do a good cleaning of the old girl. It is hard to know what I may find. Thanks for your help."
