Hi, I am looking to buy a 2006 Chaparral signature cruiser, with 350 MPI, and Bravo 3....the hour meter shows only 70 hours...the boat is extra clean and mint condition, is there anyway someone could tamper with the hour meter ? Can someone just swap out the meter with a new one, and it resets to zero ? Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks

That kind of answers your question. Are you getting the boat surveyed? See if the owner will ssplit the cost. If you don't buy it and the boat is near perfect he'll have the survey to help sell it to another person.

A seperate simple hour meter can just be swapped out, showing zero hours on a new one, but the computer for the MPI should have hours in the memory, if I'm not mistaken. A Mercruiser scan tool can pull the info out of memory. I believe the Chap hour meter (on the tach or speedo, can't remember which one) is tied directly to the computer and shows the actual computer hours.
