How can I identify my OMC drive?

Hi,
i need to order a gearcase seal kit fo my electric shift lower omc.
How can i identify?
Engine: 4 pistons, 3.0L
Can anyone help me with it?
I can't insert here photos of it.
 
Well, 1st of all OMC didn't use Litre designations until the mid 80s - so several years after the last electric shifts of 1977.

There were 153 CID 100 (earlier years only) and 120 (all years) hp models from 1964. These were based on the later designated 2.5L block. These engines were available with the light duty or heavy duty gearcases. Light duty went away about 1971.

The 181 CID 140 hp came out in 1973. These were based on the later designated 3.0L block.

Both the 153 & 181 blocks look identical externally but used different manifolds. I saying all this simply because using the wrong nomenclature will get you the wrong parts & advise.

If all is original and hasn't been bastardized there should be a metal tag on the engine block near the starter with a model & serial number.

If I recall correctly there were a few (I'm thinking 2 or 3) variations of seals & gaskets used over the years with the heavy duty gearcase. Only 1 variation for the light duty.

I don't believe OMC ever made a seal kit for the earlier versions. Must order individual parts. Same goes for Sierra.

Also, upper & lower units are seperate items, serviced individually. Each had its own seal kit when in the model year group that had kits. I'm thinking the cut over dates are 1968 & 1972. One applies to upper housings & 1 to lower housings. I don't remember which is which.

Now the bad news... this boat is 50 years old & could have had transplants. Both engine &/or drive may not be original. Yes, it is possible to have a Frankendrive arrangement.
Pictures help but you'll need a few more posts before the system allows you to attach any.
