How can I defeat a 1972 Mercruiser trim sensor?

I have a 1972 140hp Mercruiser with a failed trim sensor. This is the early model with 1 sensor switch on top of the gimbal, and the switch is no longer manufactured. Rather than junk the boat, which otherwise runs great, I'd like to defeat the sensor and just be careful not to overtrim. The two wires coming out of the switch (trim cut-off and trim-gauge) are completely corroded away, the two wires they connected to are fine (one to wiring harness, one to hydraulic pump). Any suggestions as to how I can defeat the switch and get this thing back in the water? Thanks!

One option is to find a marine salvage place, and buy one used. If you do a search of this forum, you should be able to find a site, I think i saw one mentioned a couple days ago, you can always check ebay too.

Oops...posted in the wrong category...this is for a sterndrive. Thanks for the suggestions. I've searched salvage sites and eBay with no luck. There isn't much out there for the pre-Alpha drives. I'm looking at defeating the switch as a temporary fix until I locate a replacement.
