"I have a 83'OMC 115hp Sea

"I have a 83'OMC 115hp Seadrive that I cannot get to idle properly. The eng. was rebuilt last year and and the mechanic who rebuilt the eng. said it was best if the thermostats were not reinstalled. I am now wondering if this could be the cause of my idling difficulty. (Eng. not getting to correct operating temp.) The eng runs great at all speeds but will quit when placed in neutral.I am wondering if I go to a hotter plug my problem could be fixed. I don't have the boat at this location so I can't say which plugs I am running now. Could someone tell me the hottist plug I can safely run in this eng. and if this could solve my problem. Eng. info: 1983 OMC 115hp, Mod# 2BBLCTR , Ser# J784501. I also would like to know if I have properly Id'ed this eng. I have not been able to find any info based on serial# and model #. PS. The pulgs have the perfect color and eng runs great on a hose in the yard. I have also adjusted the idle screw all the way in. Eng idles at about 2000rpm on hose. I operate this boat in Texas. Thanks!"

"Plugs should be QL77Jc4, and

"Plugs should be QL77Jc4, and thermostats INSTALLED!!!!If not installed You need to change the idle jets to compensate for engine temps, which again will build up carbon, make Your rings stick, will when building carbon make Your exhaust narrower which again will make the engine run leaner, which if You keep on running = another overhaul, change of cylinder liners if they have been oversized once allready!
Hotter spark: may perhaps improve idling, but melt down at high loads, burn Your pistons......."

Put the thermostats back in if

Put the thermostats back in if you dont want to be rebuilding your engine again!!! Ask your mechanic to explain cold seizing than ask him why it was he didnt put the thermostats back in!!
