Hot tank manifolds and risers

"Good winter morning to you all.

It's about that time that I start my winter projects. Aside from a gimbal bearing (and who knows what else once the drive come off) I need to clean my manifolds. While I was chasing that starboard-hotter-than-port manifold issue that so many people have, I removed my manifolds and risers. They look fine (after 250 hours) from as far in as I can see with my eye balls. I can't see any crud built up or large blockages. Before I just slap them back on I was told to get them "hot tanked". I assume that means at a local radiator shoppe, right? Any thoughts on this practice?
Will hot tanking 1) compromise the manifolds or 2) really clean out any unseen/calcified/cemented build ups?

Many thanks in advance!

"Eddie:

Make sure the radiator shop has ultrasonic tanks. The high frequency cleaning will knock any crud buildup loose. Have the risers done too. Take the T'stat assy. and have it cleaned.

If you have the "T" ball valve type, remove the balls and stem first. Therein might be your problem since the old springs and small debris can cause one to stick shut--higher riser temp. is the result. Mine did so after 20 years use I replaced the entire assy. due to heavy rust and deposits."

"Thanks Guy G.,
I'll make certain they have an ultrasonic tank. Is that something most modern shops have?

My plight to date:
-Changed my t-stat with an OEM replacement ($$) and that didn't effect anything insofar as manifold temps. It's a "newer" t-stat housing sans the t-ball valve.
-Flappers are there and working.
-Lower-unit impeller kit installed, tested and working fine.
-Purchased but haven't yet installed a new, OEM engine-mounted water pump (called an engine recirc pump?) to help in my quest as well! ;-)

Thanks again Guy,
Eddie"

"Ultrasonic cleaning has been

"Ultrasonic cleaning has been around 30+ years. You just don't want them acid dipped only. Have the shop pressure test them all for leaks, hairline cracks, etc. Repaint w/engine enamel.

Was the impeller intack; no chunks missing? If not, a chunk of rubber could be lodged in the T'stat housing. Some models require drilling a hole in the bottom and tapping it for a plug to see inside the T'stat hsg.

If one side runs hotter than the other, it's either plugged somewhat or not getting enough cooling water."
