Honda Prop Question

I have a Honda BF115J engine on my Manitou 210 Oasis Tritoon. I'm trying to figure out what I should be running for pitch as it seems to be struggling when loaded with people. All I seem to be able to find on the prop is the numbers 24 21 stamped on the prop. The local dealer that I bought the boat/motor from doesn't seem to be helpful or know much about how it was setup or what may have been on the motor. I'm assuming it's a 21 pitch prop but that seems wrong for the size/weight boat I have. Looking for some guidance. Also on a side note, What temp should this motor be running as normal? I consistently see 212 f temps running across the lake. Is that normal?

The prop pitch has more to do with RPMs than temp. I see similar temps on my BF 200 when I run it hard, but I don’t get an overheat alarm and I change my impeller regularly. The first number indicates diameter. Do you really have a 24” diameter prop? More likely it is 14. In any case, you should be looking to achieve maximum RPMs, which should be 5500-6000. Maybe someone with a similar setup can chime in.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the numbers do not make sense but that is all I see stamped on the Prop. Unless I need to maybe remove it to see the actual part number. I'm assuming it's a 14 x 21 prop. If that is what the prop is I am thinking that it's too much pitch for a loaded Tritoon and could be causing the higher temps as well. Could be just working too hard with that prop. I have only witnessed the overheat alarm if I get into heavy weeds and lose water flow. The dealer I purchased this Tritoon/motor package from tends to do stuff like this. They will just grab what they have in inventory and slap it together. I haven't had this setup long, so I'm just trying my best to dial it in. I really do need to get the RPM reading setup on my screen and watch what it's doing. That is my next step.

On my 1999 130, the prop numbers are on the inside, you have to remove the prop to see them.

Getting your rpm number is important to knowing if your problem is mechanical or too big a prop. To know your hookup is set right when you get an rpm number, your idle speed in neutral should be 750ish.

What year is your 115?

If you can’t find out how to get rpm on your electronics, you can get a cheap tach off amazon. I have one I use on my lawn mower etc.

My motor is a 2022, I'll try see if there is an RPM to display in the controller and see what it's doing. I may also just pull the prop and see if there are any numbers inside as well.

I have a 2021 Bennington S21 with a 115 Yamaha, I turn a 4 blade 15" pitch aluminum propeller @5800 rpms, 29 mph with full fuel, 2 people top down. Yes, you need to understand your full throttle RPM's but it sounds like yo are way over propped

send you information to this company and he will recommend the right prop. I also cross fererenced his informtion with prop doctor and he confirmed the original recommendation.

Just an update. Finally got around to installing a different prop. Went with a Solas 3 BLADE 15-1/2" DIAMETER X 13" PITCH prop. Yesterday with 7 people was running 21 MPH @ 5000rpm. With the factory prop loaded about the same weight, I was running about 17mph @ 5200. Very confusing the RPM dropped but speed came up and it also does seem to come out of the water better with the new prop. Later with only 4 of us on the boat I was seeing 23.5mph at 4900RPM. I'm half tempted to look into a 4 blade as getting on plane quick is what I am worried about vs speed. I do have a 15 pitch I just found to possibly try as well but that should be worse? But we shall see.
