Honda BF75 Help

Hi all
I am new to this site and have just come into possession of an older Honda 7.5 hp outboard (1978 I believe). The motor seems to run just fine but there is no discharge from the water pump pee hole at idle. I want to remove the lower gear housing to inspect the water pump but can not figure out how to separate the gear shift linkage. Does anyone know where and how to separate the linkage on this unit? The serial # is BF75 101054. Thanks in advance for any help.

You have to remove #3, the shift shaft joint. It is located in front of the power head behind the rectifier. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/H...EXTENSION CASE GEAR CASE SHIFT ROD/parts.html

You have to take out the rectifier and maybe a couple of other things to get to it. There is a pin going through it secured by a cotter pin. Once you get the cotter pin out and the shift pin....before you twist the shift shaft joint to get it off, twist it all the way on, counting the number of turns that it takes to screw down tight. Remember that number of turns. When you put it back on, you want to turn it all the way on and back it off that same number of turns so that the shift rod is adjusted properly.
