honda BF75 7.5 Impeller or other?

Hey guys.

Ive got an old 70's (i think) BF75 (7.5hp) which seems a little unwell

Basically I'm getting intermittent water flow from the pee hole. It usually starts pretty well then will suddenly stop, or taper off. Sometimes If i stop the engine then start it again it kicks out again. If I let the engine run for a few seconds with no water coming out, I get some steam coming out instead

Other than this, the engine seems to run well, but very hot.

Is it impeller or something else?

Also, would appreciate any advice on the procedure for changing the impeller...

Many thanks

There should be 5 bolts that hold the lower unit on. You have to first remove the pin from the top of the shift shaft, which is located in front of the powerhead behind the rectifier. You will have to remove the rectifier, remove the pin the holds the shift shaft, then unscrew the joint at the top of the shift shaft to allow the shift shaft to be pulled out of the top of the motor. Yes....it is a pain!

Then remove the 5 bolts and the lower unit should drop right off.

When you put it back. Screw the joint all the way on then back off 4 1/2 turns to adjust the shift properly.
