"My Honda BF50A idles fine except after a long run at high speed, when - I'm guessing here - only 2 out of three cyclinders fire during idle. (RPM is lower, sound is weaker, but regular, and there is a gassy smell.) I've replaced spark plugs, internal fuel filter and external fuel filter, and run lots of carb cleaner through it.
Prior to winter storage, I run it out of fuel, then drain the carbs carefully. This is my second BF50A, purchased in 2005, and it now has about 900 hours. I use it exclusively for expeditions to remote areas, so I try to take very good care of it.
I've been advised the problem might be due to failure of a coil in one of the spark plug leads. I would like to test this by disconnecting one lead at a time, but am afraid of damaging the ignition system.
Any comments or suggestions you might have would be appreciated."
