Honda BF50 Alarm

I have a late 90s BF50. The indicator lights have never worked since i got it, but never had any issues for at least a year until this solid alarm started. The alarm itself is inconsitent, sometimes it'll happen within a minute of start up. Sometimes i can run for an hour before it starts.

Its not the trim alarm, i already disconnected that. Whixh should narrow it to either oil pressure or temp. Except i disconnected both those wires at the engine cross connect -- yet the alarm still sounds!?

Today i figured out that i can make the alarm go away if i disconnect the temp and/or oil pressure wires at that little indicator light box mountes in the console. But once again, its still not consistent; sometimes just disconnwcting the yellow wires works, sometimes just the red -- but then sometimes the alarm comes back manh minutes later at which point i can make it go away by disconnecting both.

I also notice that the engine will bog if i try pushing thru the alarm, but if i disconnect the wires at the module it wont bog.

I have a couple questions:

1. Is my issue the indicator light box itself? Or a short further up the line? Or something else?

2. Does that indicator light box have any brains in it that actually interprets the sensors signals & governs the motor if necessary (or does that function take place under the cowling)? If not, then why does disconnecting it eliminate the bogging?

Thanks for the help

Those alarms are there to protect the motor in case something fails. Such as your oil pressure. If its intermittent or sporadic I would say you have a failing part and your alarms are telling you that, but from what I read above you just are wanting to ignoring them, because its "always ran fine". Everything has issues at some point. And for a late 90's those alarms are your best friends.

When those alarms sound, for something like low oil pressure, those alarms tell the brain (CPI) to go into a limp mode to avoid catastrophic damage like a cracked block. In your case, your pressure issue may be the cause of a clogged screen in the oil tank for example. How have you kept up on maintenance?

Im not wanting to ignore the buzzer! Im trying to ascertain the cause.

Let me clarify:
I bought the boat 2 years ago. It never had a buzzer go off for the first 18 months. Now over the last 6months, i have had this kooky buzzer that is inconsistent.

As a matter of detail, i am mentioning that the indicator lights have never worked. Nothing has changed with that situation since i bought it. I dont have a problem replacing that if it is my issue.

However the crux of my question is how come when i disconnect the temp or oil sensors directly in the motor, it doesnt stop the alarm? Yet when i disconnect the temp or oil wires at the indicator module, it does shut off the alarm?

That really seems to suggest to me that regardless what the sensors are doing, its not translating to my alarm / engine safegaurd system correctly.

Do you understand what i am saying?

The problem could be in the cdi unit itself i would disconnect the red & yellow from the unit itself and see what happens.
