Honda bf40 transom height

I have a 22 foot pontoon and the 40hp honda is sitting all the way down on the transom. How would it affect the boat, motor, speed, etc....if I raised the motor on the transom?

Not sure if it would do anything for the speed. Raising the motor would more than likely cause it to cavitate when in a turn or if more people move up front in the boat and raise the motor up more out of the water as the boat becomes more weighted to the front.

As the saying goes...if it is not broken...don't fix it.

That being said, if the exhaust port is nearly in the water, the motor is sitting too low. A lot depends on how the transom is postioned compared to the tunes. Some manufactures, if they know a 40 or 50 is going to be used, install a special pod that is a little lower than standard to minimize the cavitation issues noted above.
