"I am considering a used 24' Pontoon which has a Honda 115 mounted on it. Pontoon boat is said to be a year 2000 and appears to be in nice shape in the photos. The sales agent confirms "nice" on the phone and tells me the engine head is brand new, "0 hours", was installed last fall "as warranty repair" and that the 90 day factory warranty has expired. That doesn't add up to me.
How can I tell the age of the lower unit? I am assuming it's only been operated in fresh water - but haven't seen it yet. Logically, it would be a 99 or 00, new with the boat - but the warranty thing is then funny. Could be the engine was added 3 years ago and was barely under warranty when the head was replaced.
What should I be looking for to convince me this is legit - on a new head with 0 hours and no warranty?
Am I kidding myself - or should this be a good engine for fishing and general family use?
