Hi
My engine has stopped charging half way through a 150 ml trip when i had been useing a lot of kit on the boat , electric cooler box lap top etc etc,the charge rate does increase from about 10,5v up to 11.8v when engine on full revs, i have repalaced the charging coil under the flywheel</font>} and no change.
Can there be anything else apart from the regulator?
Thanks in advance"

"It does not have a regulator.

"It does not have a regulator. BTW...The output of the charging circuit is only 5 amps. While you can run a bunch of "kit" off of the house battery, it can take awhile for the motor to recharge the battery. Electric cooler box alone (at least mine) needs 4A to run. It's most likely the rectifier (or a bad battery!) If you have an ohmmeter you can check it out. Let me know if you have a meter and don't know the procedure. Procedure usually in aftermarket manuals."

"Your Diode Rectifier should show continiuity between Blue(+) to Green(-) and Red(+) to Blue(-) and no continuity between Green(+) to Blue(-) and Blue(+) to Red(-).

Diodes act like one-way check valves, there is a fuse before output plug to check as well.

As Robert wrote above, there is no 'regulator' and with a fully charged battery, I have seen as much as 15 Volts, but if you are drawing more current (amps) than the output (5 Amp Max) your voltage would drop as you mentioned while battery dies."

Thanks for the advise , i will check with my multi-meter and see what is what.
The reason i say it has a regulator is that honda tell me that bf9.9 engines with serial number 1200001 onwards have a rectifier and regulator , mine is serial number 1207431, do you think that is correct?
i also have a bf15 which apparently has the same unit fitted and is charging at 12.85</font>} with everything turned on."

"If Honda says it has a regula

"If Honda says it has a regulator, it probably does. Regulator failure usually manifests itself as high voltage or no voltage. Rectifier testable with multimeter while not active ( you need to disconnect at least one of the "input" wires). One check you can run is to measure the voltage INTO the regulator. If its like 14- 15 v , and output is as you indicated, then its the regulator. Eliminate the rectifier as a problem first."
