"Hello:I have a honda 9.9 (4 stroke outboard), a babs
model, It starts right away and it idles great.
The problem is above half throttle it runs rough with a light popping sound. The carborater is clean along with the fuel, I have installed new plugs new fuel filter and CDI with coil and wires. could this be a fuel pump problem or a burnt valve? any suggestions would be great.

"You are experiencing what we call a "lean pop". Most likely you have clogged holes in the main jet (the long tube going up the middle of hte carb with 6 or 8 small holes on the sides. If you suspect a stuck valve, you should do a compression test, and better yet, a leak down test. If you don't know what a leak down test is, better leave this to someone who does."

I would check valve clearance.Simple to do but often neglected.
