"Most likely you have crud in your float bowls or idle circuit. There are drains built into the carbs. Try forcing fuel through each carb by opening the drains while squeezing the fuel ball and collect the fuel into a clear container. Next count the turns of the fuel mixture screws for each carb to find out what they were set at. Then remove each screw and blast some carb cleaner into each screw hole. Clean each screw with carb cleaner. replace fuel mixture screws and adjust to original settings. Start motor and adjust mixture screw to obtain a smooth idle. My 75 & 90 motors prefer a slightly rich idle to prevent the stumble you are having. If that does not work it's carb overhaul time!
Good Luck, Nick"

"thanks for the info
I have a shop manual that I've been looking at.
I'll have to purchase a vacuum gauge set first

but before I dive into the carbs I thought I would
add a bit more info about my problem
The engine will run fine at home in neutral using the fast idle lever or in gear moving the throttle from idle to 3000 rpm
no hesitation at all and the primer bulb is firm

but on the water it's a entirely different motor
with all the problems in my first post
and the primer bulb is soft
It takes about six squeezes to get it firm again
but then goes soft as soon as i stop , doing this doesn't seem to help the engine run better.

thanks for the help"
