honda 90 water pressure cooling????

I noticed that the motor seamed warm if not hot. I checked it with a temp gun and got normal temps. 170 190.

I am running the motor in the garge with muffs and garden hose.FYI

But still not happy I removed the thermostat cover to inspect. There seamed to lots of hot air or steam coming from there. I fired the motor up with the thermostat and thermostat removed and to my suprise no water come out the hole. That can't be right.
When the motor is running there is water coming out the pee hole out the back.
Strange to me.
Also with the motor running and that cover off I noticed that there was I believe some type of air pressure coming out of that hole. Would that be from the exhaust? That is what I come up with.

I removed the lower unit and the rubber impeller looks fine. Its soft and look to be in good shape, not hard
.
I did just rebuild the complete motor.
Although it was my 2nd outboard rebuild.

Keep the lower unit off.

You probably have an obstruction somewhere between the thermostat and just above the base of the engine.

The passage for the water indicator tees off at the lower part of the motor.

Try to back flush your motor from the thermostat housing. You could also backwash using the standard backwash connection too...but I like to put as much pressure in through the thermostat housing.

Keep working with it until you see the water coming smoothly out of the pickup tube that goes to the lower unit.

You may just have some sand, mud or a critter has a nest up in there.

I have found a dead snake in an outboard cooling system that was driving us nuts. Hope yours is easier.
