I bought this motor last week , after fishing for a day i found that oil was milky... changed the oil and after fishing for a day oil was milky again.... so i guess i was ripped off and bought motor that has a problem. any one else had that happened? what you think it is?

Plate on the leg with serial # is gone and # on the engine it self is BACE-1211813 can any one tell me what year it is?

From what I can see it is probably about 1998. The problem is probably the head gasket, which I find is not uncommon in these older motors, and if you machine the head to remove corrosion and fit a new gasket it will probably be fine. We usually do a valve service while the head is off. Check also the exhaust gasket where the pipe goes on as they often corode around there. Once repaired you should find it is a great little motor.

Thank you for your reply .:)New head gasket is on the way.
I have this motor on the 12 ft aluminum v hull boat and it planes fine with 1 person but it wont with 2. is that sound right? i thought that 8hp would be more than enough...
 
If for some reason, that does not solve the problem, I think your model has a plastic oil fill. If the engine has gotten hot, the old plastic fills tend to warp a little. There is an o ring under the fill cover and there is a water passage right through that cover. The o ring is the only thing separating the water from the oil.

You can not get the cover off without pulling the powerhead, unless you drill a couple of holes in the side of the engine case to allow access to the bolts and allow their removal.

Hope the head gasket does the trick.

By the way, the model number for your engine is a BF8AM. That model spanned the years of 1990 to 1998.
 
how do i get more power out of this thing? would installing different prop help get it to plane with 2 people? prop thats on right now is 9 1/2 X8 5/8

oil fill is aluminum ,filler cap and dipstic are plastic
 
I think Michigan Wheel makes a prop with less pitch (about a 7 pitch). This should help when there is more than one person in the boat. It may be too small with only one person. You would just have to play with it.

I am glad you have the aluminum oil fill, that most likely is not the problem.

You can search by part number over the net.

These are the only alternatives that I know. You have to go lower in pitch when you add weight to the boat, so that leaves you with one choice.

I know of no 4 blade props for that motor. If you find one, it would help raise the back of the boat up for planing better, but I think using the word "performance" and 8 HP in the same sentence does not work...if you know what I mean.

k i see all the options of the link, now that confused me even more
so the lowest pitch propeller i can see there is 9x8.. and its listed for 14-16 foot boat. my is 9 1/2 x 8 5/8... would that even make a difference?

new head gasket in, adjusted valves, it idles smoother and stream from the watter line is more steady , so hopefully it will have bit more power now too...:)
