"About twenty years ago, the BF75/BF100 series were morphed into the BF8. Think that the older 7.5 & 10 HP was measured at flywheel and BF8 is 8 HP at the Prop.

The 9.9 is a 15 HP that is reduced to 9.9 HP for lakes that restrict above 10 HP, adjusting a throttle block will bring a 9.9 above 13 HP.

Completely different engine than a BF8."

I just got off the phone with my Honda Machanic and i was quizing him about the difference between the 9.9 and 15 and he states that it is just the Carbs. i specifically asked him if the cam and the exhaust were different and he said they were not...... so if you want a 15 hp just change out the carbs.....methinks. p.s. this was for a 2000 model"
