Honda 50 hp has trouble starting cold

motor is 2007 , carburetted . has the Honda fuel enrichment system. Does anyone have a troubleshooting experience with this system? This motor was new to me last spring and I spent considerable time and money with no success in resolving these poor cold starts.
To date
> All carbs cleaned (twice)
>Fuel filter changed
>Fuel to carbs proven flow
>Spark on all 3 plugs
>plugs dry after numerous tries

Any help is appreciated

When starting, the throttle for this motor should not be advanced at all.

You say that the motor is a 2007, however, the 50 HP was fuel injected in 2007.

Post the frame serial number so we can see what it really is.

Then based on the serial number....if the carbs (especially #1 carb) were cleaned correctly and idle mixture screws set properly....the next step would be to check the number on top of the bystarter (on top of the top carburetor). Also, what is the jet size of that carburetor's bowl. If the first two letters on the bystarter are not "HG" and if the jet number on the bowl is not "78" (stamped on the bowl just above the bowl drain nipple), then you need to change the bystarter and carburetor bowl on #1 carburetor.

So...check the frame serial number and the numbers on the two above mentioned parts.

Now is a good time to suggest to anyone out there that is having trouble getting the Honda carburetors really clean, to buy the Honda Carburetor Manual.http://www.amazon.com/Honda-Marine-...1AFO/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A14VJQOXKKYWSY

It is well worth the money. It goes into very detailed descriptions as to how to clean and make sure all passages are clean. Lots of pictures too.

Thanks Mike , Motor is at cottage , I will get those numbers back to you on the weekend . I purchased this motor / pontoon / trailer as a package and was told it was a 2007 . The bystarter was replaced by a local marine mechanic as a form of troubleshooting, Problem persisted after however . He consulted with the nearest Honda dealer as this was new to him. Honda Carb manual ordered this morning.

Following thread.

I'm having similar problem with a recently purchased 2006 30hp (BF30D Ser# BAUJ-1200xxx) that also has the enrichment system (no choke). But instead of hard starts, mine tends to 'load-up' while idling. I have to put it in neutral and rev it a bit then it's good for another 5 to 10 minutes. But to keep from hijacking, I'll start a new thread.

Was not able to get to the cottage this past weekend. I will try again next weekend.

It has the most current bystarter and bowl.

That means to me.....as long as your compression is good (which you probably do not have a way to check).....

- The carburetors need to be vacuum balanced ....or...most likely...
- The carburetors need to be cleaned with close attention to the starting circuit.

The carb manual that you ordered has pictures of how the fuel flows through them in the rear section of the manual.
