Honda 225 Lower Unit - Leak?

Hey guys. Motor has been running great. Havent noticed any problems. No bad noises. But when I got done washing the boat after yesterdays trip, I came out and noticed an oily residue seeping from both sides of the lower at this small hole towards the top of the lower unit? Im assuming gear lube but there isnt enough for me to tell by color/smell/feel?

Any thoughts? Or is this just one of those common things?

Got to look where shift shaft meets below powehead I have a leak from boring on shift shaft and travels down midsection then comes out that hole

So its definitely engine oil then? I was curious, because the oil that leaks out doesnt seem to have a bad smell and is pretty clear. I use merc hi performance gear lube and its definitely green/blue in color.

Do you notice any loss of engine oil significant?

No takes time due to leak , but if it is traveling down from engine I.e. mine from shift shaft I could see / feel oil traveling down shift shaft. I am sure not all leaks exactly same but that's mine. Gear case oil if fairly recent should look different

I figured I would trace out where that hole leads to...so basically it should not have any gear lube in it or even have a way to get it there. Most likely coming from engine. IMO

Exactly now get flash light check around power below. Mine is a seal on shift shaft if I till motor all the way up leak easier for me to see oil trail

This is exactly the same leak Aristakat that I'm seeing. Its not gear lube. If you tilt the engine up just right, a slow seep of a leak happens. I'm wondering if its coming from maybe a breather valve or something.

Well I'm having this issue too, I was thinking it was gear lube since I am getting water in gearcase. It happens to be on the unit that I'm going to swap with. So, I guess I'll find out the level of difficulty.
