Honda 1998 BF50 Tachometer

Gentelmen maybe someone can help

I have BF50 1998. From dealer's I bought original kit (tachometer with digital hour meter, trim gauge, cables) part numer 06333ZW500AHE (if not mistaking separate tachometer part nomber 37253-ZW5-000ZA)
After everething where connected as it said in manual I choosed correct ranging switch setting (3p/6c) but readings are wrong. during idle 1800rpm
On photo you can see it is written C=cyl P=Pulses 3 pulses ok, but if "cyl" means number of cylinders then it probably wrong tachometer... Or maybe I do not understand something. Also it is calibrating point on back of tacho, maybe nessesary to calibrate? then how?

That engine is only 3 Cyl so at a guess you should turn the gauge to the 6P setting and see how that looks.
 
You have the correct tach and the correct setting. The early 50's had an issue with the output from the engine to the tach "overdrove" the tach circuit causing a poor reading. You may even notice that as you accelerate, the tach varies a little before the needle goes up.

First of all....do not try to recalibrate......

The fix in most cases is a resistor. The part number is 06383-ZV5-315. It has leads that you can just insert into the wiring harness where the wiring harness from the engine connects to the key switch wiring under the dash. You do not have to cut or modify anything.

I have not checked myself, but others on this forum have indicated that it is a 100 ohm resistor.

The resistor connects between the tach lead (grey lead) and ground (black lead) and shunts down some of the overvoltage.

If you choose to use just a 100 ohm resistor off the shelf, then you should make sure that the wattage is at least 1 or 2 watts.
