I have just purchased my first Honda outboard a BF 15 serial 1211712 could you please advise year model and any known faults of this model it s made in Japan.

It depends on the four letters in front of the digits.

If the letters are BAAS, BAAL or BAAU it is a 1990 model BF15AM.

If the letters are BALJ it is a 2005 model BF15D5.
