"Hi all,
I have just replaced my single rochester carb and manifold with a holley 4 barrel vac secondary (marine, downward facing vent tubes) and an edelbrock performer manifold to suit. I have moved to an electric pump which is pushing 5 lbs at the carb. The throttle lever seems to go very stiff when the carb is given fuel pressure, so much that the throttle will stick open if moved to WOT. It seems to be a problem with the throttle pumper. There is no visual squirt of fuel when the throttle is pumped either.
Any ideas?
Cheers Paul"

"Paul,

Have you verified that you have fuel on the backside of your pump? How have you wired the fuel pump? Many applications use an oil pressure switch that energizes the pump and a temporary bypass from the start solenoind when you engage it. As for the sticking shifter, inspect your linkage to ensure that it is parallel and properly aligned with the threaded rod at the end of your cable.

As for no squirt of fuel from the accelerator pump, it sounds to me like the carb is not receiving fuel from the pump. Good luck."

"Hi Mike,

i have fuel to the carb @ 5/6lbs. The linkage etc is all okay, it only goes stiff when it is given fuel pressure. Let the fuel pressure die down and the throttle linkage goes nice and free again. Could it be a blockage from the accelerator pump route up to the pumper jet, giving no squirt of fuel and a hard accelerator pump where its building pressure??
