hole in water pump housing?

Hello,

I was surprised to find this hole in my water pump as I was cleaning it up in painting it. It's through the casting and air passes through it. What's strange is I didn't have any water leaking from it this year. This hole is not supposed to be there correct? I am thinking of appplying some JB WELD expoxy and then sanding it back down to so the epoxy is neatly filling gap.

Steve, are you asking about the penetration or indent for the bronze thrust plate "tang"?
If so, this is completely normal for a sea water pump like this.

I m talking about the bent looking hole above the bolt hole

Correct!
This is a "tang" that prevents the bronze impeller "thrust plate" from rotating within the pump housing.

Should I be able to blow air through it?

Well thanks for your help I now realize the air is going through but staying in the body bolted it back together and it's air tight
