Hinge Pin Alpha One

I'm trying to remove a bell housing but have a frozen hinge pin. I've snap 2 removal tools and have used penetrating oil and heat but it just won't budge. Does anybody have any other ideas? Thanks

Seymour, looks like we're in the same boat. I've got some really tight pins on a Bravo 3. I twisted two aftermarket tools with ease. I just got a new Mercruiser OEM hinge pin tool and have a tank of mapp gas. I'm going to tackle mine again tonight armed with these new weapons. If I figure anything out that may help you, I'll let you know.

Seymour, I was able to successfully remove my pins after a bit of heat from a little Bernzomatic TS8000 torch and MAPP gas. I heated the bell housing around the pin for just under a minute and that was all it took. To preserve my third tool, I decided to used my torque wrench set at 100 ft lbs, and was prepared to add heat until they would come loose without activating the torque wrench. Found out mine were treated with red loctite during install... I posted some pics in my other thread mentioned above. The torch kit I bought at Lowes for just under $50. I needed one in my tool collection anyway.

I used a torch and still I couldn't get the pin out. I spoke to a friend who ran into the same problem and used a 1/2 inch hex key. I pick one up at Sears and had to use a pipe for some leverage but got the pin out. Funny that a tool made specifically for removing hinge pins would snap so easy but an $8 hex key did the job perfectly.

Be careful with the 1.2" hex key it is only 6 points the hinge pins are 12. We rounded one of with the hex key and had a heck of a time drilling it out and rethreading. Once the pins are loose the hex key is just as effective.
