High speed jet?

I have been trouble shooting a 1971 9.5hp evinrude (model 9122R). Initial problem was it would idle, but once in gear, would die.

Gas is ok, new sparks, float ok, car seems clean from what can be seen without drilling out the caps.

Fuel pump was a question so replaced that, but couldn't find the exact model that is referenced in parts diagrams. (0382224 replaced by 0388833). I put one that says it replaces 397839 391638 395091 397274 ... Fits ok, a bit deeper.

Also sprayed carb cleaner into fuel in Port, and all tubes and jets that go into parts unseen in the carb.

Engine now runs ok at idle and low speed, but when going into high rpm dies. Pumping bulb every 2-3 seconds while running keeps motor on and it runs ok.

So, the question is. Is the wrong pump the issue? Or is the high speed jet still clogged enough to deprive enough fuel at high rpm.

Thoughts? Help?

Thanks!

Did you remove the high speed jet that is screwed into the carburetor bowl innards, yes or no.------If the motor keeps running when you operate the manual pump you have a fuel pump issue.----A $6.00 diaphragm repairs the pump in 9 out of 10 cases.----But there might be an issue with the PRESSURE pulse that drives the pump.---Oh ---and I own more than one 9.5 HP model and worked on many of them in the day !

There is a pin that is moved by the float. That pin goes into a brass (?) part that we unscrewed (and it was clean). There is what appears to be a pick up that has holes drilled at 90 degrees to each other. Does the part unscrew? I don't see any spot to use a tool. Thanks,

Somewhere I saw that there is a jet behind the drain plug. That one?

Thanks,

We are not concerned with the float valve.----The high speed jet is way inside the bowl.----Reachable after you remove the drain plug.

You probably have a leak somewhere between the fuel pump and the level of the fuel in the tank. Sucking air through the leak instead of fuel from the tank
