"PUT THIS AQ 125 TOGETHER, WITH THE AQ 140 CAM, AND DUAL CARBS. SET THE TIMMING AND SET THE DWELL. EVERYTHING RUNS GREAT, BUT WHEN I GIVE IT THROTTLE EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD, BUT ONCE I RETURN TO IDLE THE RPMS REMAIN QUITE HIGH FOR A MINUTE OR SO. IS THIS A POSSIBLY STICKY THROTTLE PLATE? OR WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE?"
 
had the same prob. with mine..

had the same prob. with mine.....It turned out to be the throttle cable sticking. Do like El says and start without the cable. You will see.

"OK, I HAVE TRIED GIVING IT THROTTLE WITH THE CABLE DISCONNECTED. SAME PROBLEM. GIVE IT THROTTLE AND WHEN LINKAGE IS RELEASED, IT TAKES QUITE ALONG TIME TO RETURN TO IDLE. WOULD THE MECHANICAL ADVANCE HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT?
I HAVE LOOKED AT THE BUTTERFLYS IN THE CARB, THEY APPEAR TO BE WORKING FINE. COMMON SENSE WOULD TELL ME THAT IF THE BUTTERFLYS ARE CLOSED THAT THEIR WOULD BE NO AIR FOR THE ENGINE TO RUN AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL IDLE. ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!"

Have you tried resetting the idle screw? or the air screw? Idle screw makes more sense to me.
 
WHEN THE IDLE COMES DOWN IT ST

WHEN THE IDLE COMES DOWN IT STOPS AT AROUND 2500 RPM FOR APPROX 30-45 SECONDS THEN IT FALLS TO AROUND 850-900 RPM. I HAVE CHECKED THE IDLE AND MIXTURE SCREWS BOTH. BUT I DONT HAVE THE TOOL TO SYNCH THE CARBS. A FRIEND HAS THE TOOL I AM GOING TO BORROW IT TOMORROW.
