High Idle

Hello everyone,

I own a 1999 johnson 200 horsepower motor. I disassembled and cleaned the carbs over the winter. After I installed them, the engine wont idle under 1000rpm. I have the carbs synced, and have played with the fuel intake screw. when I start to get it under 1000 the engine stalls. I have the boat in the water so it isn't the back pressure, as i have read. I checked the hoses and all are connected to the nipples. Im running out of ideas. Can some of you guys throw some suggestions at me, give some ideas. Seems like all the mechanics in my area have a two week waiting period, and I am Jonezing for some striper action. any help would be awesome, Thanks in advance, Mario
 
How about choking engine does it make a difference at idle?? Spray carb cleaner around base of carbs to see if idle increase/decrease maybe air leak.Choking kinda does same test. Pretty much trying to determine if it's getting too much fuel at idle or not enough(air leak) What is engine timing within spec?? Sorry read your post wrong and made some adjustments to this post

Yea choking the engines makes a difference. When i choke it doesn't stall for about 10-15 seconds. When it does stall sometimes its abruptly sometimes its gradually. I assuming Im not getting enough gas. So maybe the needle is shot or I installed the carbs wrong gonna look at it again tomorrow.
 
The seals on the back of those carbs can easily jump out of their grooves when re installing those carbs.. This in turn can cause an air leak and result in your symptoms...
Recheck these seals.. Do a proper link/sync, and also play attention to the low speed needle settings. You should start with 5 turns out and fine tune from there..
