High Idle at start up.

Just got my 1975 50 hp Johnson outboard started after new water pump impeller and carb cleaning. It ran rough, so I adjusted the air fuel mixture which smoothed it out, but the idle is about 1000 rpm's. (guessing) Where can I adjust the idle. I don't want to mess it up. Just need to get the idle down. Don't have a manual.

Is that your idle while you are running on muffs? Your idle needs to be set on the lake while it is in gear and warmed up.

It is in my driveway with the tail sitting in a tub of water. I can put it in the lake, I just need to know where and how to adjust the idle

You need to get a tach and your idle might be ok where it is. If not there is a screw on the throttle linkage I believe it's a hex screw.
