hiya.
as the title says .
new to the site AND boats.
1987 2 stroke 90 hp. mercury
first question, can i remove the lower yoke with the engine still on the boat,( bearings are shot ) ive dropped the gearbox but not sure how to remove the shift shaft ( if it slides down it should be easy) but i cant work out the top linkage yet.
also try to find parts with the serial number, the numbers match up on on 2 id plates on engine , but i cant find anything on internet site, all i can see is stick on tag says 9633545 but has a scratch over the first number or letter, looks like a 0 has been scratched off, on the core plug it reads 9633545, was told its a 1987 , but im not sure, can anyone answer that one with just them numbers ive give please.
i think that will do for now , as im pretty sure i,ll be asking alot more.
thanks in advance for any help.

Well the block is '91 anyway. You have a Belgian built '91 90HP.Shift shaft doesn't slide down. What bearings are shot? None in the mid section. If it's the lower yoke bushings, you may get lucky and be able to wedge the leg far enough out from the saddle to get the bolts out,but I wouldn't bet on it.:(
That entails removing the block to access the top bushings to separate the leg from the saddle.
In any case the shift rod doesn't need to be removed.Good luck.

thanks for the reply.
yep you are right , its the lower yoke bushing, and again thanks for telling me the year also.
looks like i gotta learn somewhere, might aswell well be with taking the engine off first.
thanks ian
