"Did you say you took off your Vro and replaced it with a standard fuel pump I also have a '89 70hp evinrude and i was wanting to the same thing. Do you have the part # for the fuel pump. Does it have the 3 hoses(in,out,& pulse). How does it mount up. Thanks alot Billy"

Removing vro is not wise 5o to one does not give the engine enough oil at high speed causing permanent damage

"If the VRO is working, and the alarm tests ok, there is no reason to disconnect it. You are more likely to forget to mix the gas than the chances of the VRO and alarm failing at the same time.

BTW....50:1 is the proper mix to run if you decide to remove the VRO pump. The newer VRO pumps have fixed ratios near 50:1. The first generation pumps ran 50:1 at WOT, 150:1 at idle. After a few years, the idle was richened up to 100:1. Later on they went to the fixed ratio. The problem with the lean mix at idle was storage. Boaters that have to idle for a long time to reach their mooring didn't have enough oil on the metal parts to prevent corrosion in storage. The engine will idle for a week on 150:1 without issue."

"Yes I did and it works fine...out of all the millions of research I have done on this issue, this is the first person I have ever heard saying it will ruin an engine.

it was the best thing I ever done with mine, ran much better with it off.

the part number is 0385784

its the pump they used on this size engine in 1983, prior to the VRO systems and they have a vaccum line for the pulse fitting."

"Thanks Matt, does it mount up

"Thanks Matt, does it mount up using existing holes,or do you have to modify it to fit. Thanks"

"Matt whats the model on your motor, mine is a TE70TLCE, just wondering."

"its the same...actually mine

"its the same...actually mine is just sitting upright in place and the 3 hoses are holding it in place. some people say this is ok, some dont, but I plan on making a plate of some sort to mount it on. Possibly out of the vro mounting bracket. Also, brp sells a mounting plate for this reason, but I have been unable to get a part number for it.

with the 3 hoses connected, it doesnt move much though."

"not to get off the subject but,did you relocate the telltale hose to the top of the top of the block."

"matt, when you got your fuel pump, did it come with the hoses and clamps."

"Got new stuff...its all right

"Got new stuff...its all right there really easy to re hose.

Most of the motors with late 80's or early 90's probably have the original hoses on them, and they werent setup for the gas we have today, we have additives in gas today and its smart to replace your hoses because the new hoses are built for these additives."

"no reason, i just thought it was kinda cool that there are people posting from all over the world, and people from right down the road."

"Ohh I see thats where you are from, just read your profile. Man, you have the boat I want. Ive always wanted a tracker.

"The boat is an 1988,the man i bought it from said it would do about 47mph. I've had it about 2 months, haven't taken it out yet(needs a little work). This is new to me and i'm wanting to do all the work myself, that's why i'm asking all these questions. What kind of boat do you have?"
