" this is mike about the 1976 200 evinude. tried this afternoon with key, no spark. i unplugged red connector,no spark. disconnected black/yellow kill wire from starboard pack, still no spark.reconnected everything jumped off with my truck,at first no spark then all of sudden spark again. im lost?!! i relly appreciate all the help youve given me "

"Mike.... Whew, really weird problem! Check to be sure that both black wires (all black) from the packs are grounded properly, and I assume they are but it had to be said.

It sounds like the stator would be intermitent for some reason. Obviously the powerpacks are okay as it's impossible for them to be intermitent.

Check the ohm reading between the wires that lead from the stator to the packs.... brown - brown/yellow (could be brown - brown/orange), I don't have the book right here with me. At any rate, check the readings with your manual and push, pull, wiggle the wires looking for breaks. Also visually check the stator for cracks, leakage of a sticky substance, anything unusual.

" joe checked the statir resis

" joe checked the statir resistance and it read302 ohms. my book calls for 270 ohms+/- 50. well within specs. another question, book says that charge coils put out 300 volts ac. i connected my fluke 23series meter across the stator leads on starboard side and only get 74volts ac while cranking. am i testing this wrong and if so what is the proper way. now im leaning towards a stator. how much do one of these cost? "
