"Well depending how well your

"Well depending how well your comp gauge is calibrated, I would be looking for anything north of 90 psi (saw someone post that both cylinders were 160 psi - well, at least they were even pressured, albeit about 50 psi higher than when it came from factory??)

Still general rule of thumb applies - want both cylinders within about 10% of each other.

Currently OMC/BRP is advising that 20% is acceptable. They felt too many un-necessary rebuilds were being done and that 20% difference between cylinders is still both acceptable and functional...."

"Sorry Noel, should have added

"Sorry Noel, should have added. If it's serial starts with the earlier "676" (A or B models) I would steer away from it - getting very tough to find parts for those.

The early 6E9 "C" models and the later ones changed very very little and all parts are compatable.

In the middle of the C model run they came equipped with the Auto-Blend oil system which should be tossed (the auto blend part) if still there. They scrapped that after a couple of years and went back to a "mix your gas/oil" model.

Then the last couple model years they had an actual gear driven oiler (which is what Merc still uses today - and I would use it if I found a Mariner so equipped - good system)."
