" Hi, I just took out my 1991

" Hi, I just took out my 1991 Evinrude 90 VRO, which I bought 2nd hand, for the first time.

It runs great until I open the throttle to 3/4 to Full and after around 5 mins at that throttle setting I get this warning buzzer...what is it for?

I pulled the throttle back to idle to keep water flowing through the engine and after about 5 minutes the buzzer stopped....then it happened again...and again.

What is the buzzer for? What can I do to correct the problem the buzzer is warning me about?

"Nige..... Ignoring that buzzer, running the engine for five (5) minutes as you say until it stopped, is a good way to destroy the engine. What type warning were you receiving? I strongly advise you to purchase a service manual for that engine if you intend to keep it.... left of this page, click on Classified, Outboards, then look for the manuals.

The buzzer was a continous tone.

Can I remove the thermostat to increase the water flow? If so where is it on the engine?

I am an Australian working in the Middle East, so there are not many Service Manuals here...unfortunatley.

"Nige..... That constant buzz would indicate that the engine is overheating at a high rpm, which in turn indicates a failing water pump.

Water pump OMC original part number #395062 superceeds up to #434421 with a list price of approximately $60.00.

Do not remove the thermostats with intentions of leaving them out. This will result in improper internal tempertures (interior of cyl in relation to water jacket) which will result in scored pistons and cylinder walls.

The manual(s) as I indicated above would be shipped to you if they are available here.

I've found a Outboard Service Center in town, but they are not open until Saturday (Thursday/Friday) is our weekends here.

If they can't help me with a replacement water pump can you suggest an Evinrude Dealer that I could order a water pump from and get it FedEx'd to me.

Also a Service Manual.

Shall I get a thermostat too?

Once again thanks for your help.

Our water temp is in the high 90's and air temp is almost 120F.

The thermostats are located in the housing that the hoses from the cylinder heads lead to. There are also two spring loaded pressure relief valves in that housing..... so don't atempt to do those repairs over the water!

If Andrew doesn't have a service manual for your engine at this site, I assume you can order one from Bombardier."
