does anyone know if a 1982 40h

does anyone know if a 1982 40hp merc starter will work on a 1986 35hp merc. Thank you for any help

"You can find out with a bit of detective work. Go on the below website and find both motors, then jot down the part number for the starters. If it's hte same, you're golden. If not, though, it might still work.

"I've been watching, yall doing fine. Best advise I heard was count the teeth, same basic unit either way even if teeth need to swap from one to other. Lot of people think the starter is bad because the bendix doesnt come up, little oil will fix that. Once in a while some contact cleaner sprayed straight through to clean brushes. Brush kits still available also.
