HELP with wiring 25hp 76' johnson outboard

greetings all,

i bought a project boat that needs the ignition switch wired but I have no idea what wire goes to what terminal on the switch. can anyone out there help me? there are 5 wires in that harness.
 
The best thing to do is get you a manual on that engine.But for now go to mastertechmarine.com ad you can download a wiring diagram for that engine.That is where i got mine and if i remember rite it was free!!Good luck
 
Red to B
White to S
Blue to M
The other blue to M
I believe the auto choke goes to A Purple wire with a jumper from B terminal.

Do you have a old or new switch? 5 terminals or 6? Is the auto choke on a push type or toggle switch?
 
thanks for the help ciscokid, I went to the site, however the wire colors do not match what comes from the motor i have. i have red and black that go to battery, and then red, white, green, black and black. can i run this motor without the switch? what version of the repair manuals are the best to buy? this is my first boat and it looks like I have my work cut out for me. any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated.
 
dew2 I dont have a switch yet. the color of wires that come from my motor dont seem to match what you have posted. I wonder if the harness on my motor is not the original. mine is red and black to batt. red, white, green, black and black. the choke is manual on the engine. thanks for any and all help.
 
are you looking at old weathered wires,Take some tape off and get a better look.I have 2- 1976 35s here and I just had to remove the tape to determine colors.The colors I posted are fron my 35s.should be the same
