Help with new boat optimax 225 with smart craft guages going into engine guardian mode

just bought a used 2001 proline with a mercury 225 optimax motor, at first i got 4 random beeps about every 2 minutes, also when running over 4500 rpm i got a continuous warning beep and the gauge shows "reduce throttle". After about 15 minutes of running the motor dropped down to about 1200 rpm with a warning alarm saying it was in guardian mode and power was reduced to 4 percent, but no specific reason for this was shown on the smart craft display on the gauges. I did notice that whenever we got any kind of alarm the screen would default to the reserve oil level, but it showed 95-100%. Any thoughts on what to check ??

Thanks

Did you buy this in a private sale or from a dealer (used)?

If the latter I would be taking it back and getting them to "have a look".

The 4 beeps is either low or water in the fuel. When you combine your 4 beeps with the continuous beep and reduction in rpms (no oil flow is most obvious cause in this case), you have a potentially disastrous situation.

A bad oil level sensor would not account for the "no oil flow" condition which would be (most probably) the second part of your issue.

I would get this into a certified dealer, get the motor plugged in and sorted out "before" I fired it up again - unless you are looking for an excuse to repower.

If you bought this from a dealer, depending on the terms, they should make this right.

If you bought it from "some guy", you have maybe found out that a motor that runs "perfectly" on the "perfect boat" rarely is - for if it was it never would have been for sale in the first place.

I think the engine guardian mode was activate due to oil level alarm visually inspect your oil tank on the powerhead and see the oil level, if it's full then you might have a faulty oil tank sensor

The readout on the smart craft gauge shows the "reserve" tank at 100% and about 2.5 gallons, upon visual inspection the tank on the motor is completely full.

It was purchased from a private seller who "had there mechanic go through it" prior to the purchase, which i believe he did as he had both hi and low pressure fuel pumps replaced and the i believe the filters. Im assuming the fuel in the tank has been there a while as it had 60 gallons when i got it and he never really used the boat. Sounds like a bad end to my vacation in the keys.

Thanks

Just an update, checked the tank on the engine and it was down maybe 3/4 inch from top of cap threads, ran the motor with cap off, but it didnt seem to fill. Checked the boat tank and disconnected the fill tube and just put on the regular cap, pulled the pickup tube out and made sure the filter was clean, reinstalled and tightened both caps and connectors, ran the boat again and the tank on the motor started to rise, capped the motor tank when full, ran the boat but same problem. Disconnected the sensor wire to the engine tank and jumped them together, cleared the 4 beeps and all other alarms.
