Help with a Mercury 115 hp outboard

Hi everyone,
I sure could use some help with what I believe to be is a 1986 Mercury 115 hp outboard.The only number on the plate on he motor is a serial number OA975286. I took the boat out of winter storage and put in two(2) new batteries and the engine started right up and everything was fine. I went outside the next day and tried to start the motor and the motor and electric trims were dead as if they were not getting power. I checked everything with a volt meter and all I could find was the starter/trim solenoid mounted on the bottom of the engine compartment had power coming into the solenoid but n power coming out so I put in a new one but there still appears to be no power going to the starter or the trims. I don't know what else to do and I can't afford to pay boat repair shop labor prices. I am 66 years old collecting SSD money is very tight and the only place in my area to have my boat looked at is D & R Boats and they charge $190 per hour labor. Sure hope someone can help an old man out!

Take some jumper cables and jump the starter directly off a good battery. If she spins over nice, replace the solenoid.

I assume you have cleaned and tightened every connection on the solenoid and starter?

Hi Jeff,
I everything you stated except jump the starter ( don't know how). I replaced the solenoid with a brand new one after cleaning and retightening all the grounds and still no power to the starter or trims.

You have to have a bad connection somewhere, possibly a bad ground. Jump the starter directly, with the ground clamp on the starter.
