Hello all, been skimming the forum for several months but this is my first post. I have owned a ‘87 Mercury 80HP 3Cyl for a little over a year now. After some TLC I have finally gotten it running well but my biggest issue remains the power tilt/trim. When I purchased the motor the tilt/trim would sink after a few minutes of being up, so I figured it needed some more power trim fluid and to bleed any air in the system but my problem arose when I removed the plug assembly to add more fluid. Getting that old plug off was a nightmare and in the process I stripped part of the hex head off. I added more fluid and got the plug back on but there was no way I could get it off again and the plug not be completely ruined. It fixed my issue of the tilt/trim slowly sinking for a year but now it’s acting up again and I need to figure out a more permanent solution. My problem is that this plug is discontinued by Mercury/Quicksilver and it extremely scarce on the aftermarket, EBay has a few listing as do other websites but they are all sold out. My local Mercury dealer says that there is no replacement part for the plug assembly so I don’t know what to do next. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find that plug assembly? (Mercury part number 19-99609A1) or maybe a rep Replacement part or even a workaround. This issue is driving me up the wall that there is no replacement from Mercury.
