"Hi, I would appreciate some help very much.

My 90hp(V4) seemed to be running a little rough. So I did a spark test and the port side plugs (yes both) do not pass the 7/16 test. The stbd side does. There is spark on the port side but evidently not strong enough.

My logic tells me the problem is probably not the sensor coil (I "think" there is only one), because there is some spark. I believe the issue must be in the power pack.

I don't have all the tools for all the various test. Therefore I am include to just replace the power pack,

Does this make sense?

Thanks"

weak spark can indicate a weak stator and also cause issues with power pack.test stator for resistance and output.do not spend money gussing
it can get expensive

one option is to replace the power pack and keep the old one for a spare in the boat tool box.. a spare power pack (approx 100 bucks) will keep you from sleeping with the alligators..a stator for this engine will run about 250 so the power pack is the cheaper option..i assume you have checked the ground on your engine...a good way to check this is to make sure there is no voltage between your engine block and the negative post on your battery when you hit the starter with voltage to crank the engine..

"Charles & Carl, thanks for your responses.

I just got back from a weekend with the boat. Replaced the power pack and still have weak spark.

I will check for ground that's a good idea, haven’t done that yet. I simply thought bad ground is bad ground… thought I would have seen weak spark on all four cylinders. But as the boat is quite far from where I live I have to go with stator in hand. Otherwise, summer will be long gone before I get the boat running properly.

So I need to prepare to remove the fly wheel. My father just gave me his old puller. I'm not sure if the bolts are the correct size. Does anyone know what size the puller bolts need to be?

Also, what kind of tool do I need to hold the flywheel while I tighten / untighten the flywheel nut?

So far I have replaced the following: powerpack,
spark plugs, ignition wires. Ignition coils check out OK.

So now I assume if I verify good ground, and replace the stator I "should" be in goood shape!

Any thoughts?

Thanks again."
