Help with 11996 4.3

I have a 1996 cobia 205 sport,it has a 4.3 vortec (volvo/penta).I have had this boat for 3 years.The boat has not been used in over 10 years.I got the boat in poor condition,boat has never been covered from 2000 till 3 years ago.It's been quite a project.I tried starting it after replacing the starter,engine ran would not idle,ran rough at high rpm,blowing black smoke,I had the carburetor rebuilt,still pouring gas into the intake,bought a new carb.still ran poorly,did a compression check,got readings from 75 to 125.I decided to replace the head gaskets.The intake manifold was full of rust and you couldn't see the valves in the heads packed with rust,after cleaning had heads checked for cracks,heads ok,cleaned intake and exhaust,reassembled engine.Tried starting,very very hard to start,does not want to idle,runs rough at high rpm,pops through carb and backfires through exhaust.If there is anybody out there that can help me with this problem I would deepl appreciate it.thank you Larry

I'd say that from your approach, that you got a wee bit ahead of yourself there, and that you are not equipped to diagnose and/or repair this particular engine problem! And I mean absolutely NO OFFENSE with that comment.
Some of us just simply aren't trained in this area.

The new replacement marine engine may be the best way to go for you.
